CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 22, 2011) – The Charlotte Touchdown Club in conjunction with the Football Writers Association of America announced today that the 2011 Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet will be broadcast nationally for the first time ever on NFL Network.

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy presented annually to the nation’s top NCAA defensive football player will be formally awarded during the annual Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet scheduled for Monday, December 12th at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte. NFL Network’s broadcast of the event is scheduled for Friday, December 16th at 4:30 pm ET.

“Having the Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet televised nationally has been a goal of the Charlotte Touchdown Club for more than 10 years,” commented John Rocco, Executive Director of the Charlotte Touchdown Club. “Our partnership with NFL Network means tremendous exposure for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the city of Charlotte and for this region. It also allows college football fans from around the country to enjoy the excitement of watching the nation’s top defensive football player earn a place in the history of college football.”

“We are excited to broadcast the Bronko Nagurski Award nationally for the first time,” said Lawrence Randall, NFL Network’s Director of Programming. “The Bronko Nagurski Award is one of the most prestigious honors in college football and  kicks off  NFL Network’s path to the 2012 NFL Draft.”

“Charitable giving is an important part of who ACN is as a company, and it means even more when we can give back in our own backyard.  So we’re proud to support the Charlotte Touchdown Club’s Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and we’re highly anticipating the Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet being on nationwide television for the very first time,” said Robert Stevanovski, ACN Chairman and Co-Founder. “It’s such an honor and privilege to sponsor an organization that not only celebrates excellence in college football, but one that supports area athletics for middle and high school students.  Their work ensures the children of Charlotte, the city ACN calls home, continue to have the resources they need to be well-rounded students both in the classroom and out on the field.”

Steve Richardson, Executive Director for the College Football Writers Association of America added, "NFL Network's inclusion in its programing of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy presentation will greatly broaden the awareness of the award nationally. The Charlotte Touchdown Club, the Panthers and the city of Charlotte have continually enhanced the award's presentation and banquet over the years and this is just another example of the strong leadership of those entities. We at the FWAA are very excited about the future of the award with an association such as this one."

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is presented annually by the Charlotte Touchdown Club and Football Writers Association of America to the nation’s most outstanding NCAA defensive football player. The Charlotte Touchdown Club also honors local college and high school football players and since the club’s inception, it has raised more than $1,250,000 for student athletic scholarships throughout the Charlotte Metro Area.
